The city of Zigong has enhanced its opening-up and industrial transformation processes over the past few years.

By deepening its cooperation with the Yangtze River Delta, the Pearl River Delta, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area, the Beibu Gulf Rim Economic Zone, and the ASEAN countries, the city of Zigong has become a key transportation hub in Southwest China, including Sichuan, Chongqing, Yunnan, and Guizhou provinces. The combined transport of railway and sea from Zigong to the Fangcheng Port in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region has been put into operation. A state-level comprehensive bonded area, the Southwest China (Zigong) Dry Port, and an offshore logistics center are now under construction in the city.

The city has focused on industrial upgrades by integrating culture and tourism and by developing advanced manufacturing and modern service industries. An industrial cluster featuring environmental protection, energy conservation, new materials, and bio-medicine has taken shape, and emerging industries such as electronics, information, and general aviation have blossomed in the city.

Zigong has also put great emphasis on investment and talent attraction. The Zonergy Company, the Sichuan Entergy Industry Investment Group, and several other renowned enterprises have built workshops in the city. Zigong has attracted a total of 62 projects, which can bring an investment of over 100 million yuan each. In total, the actual capital inflow from outside of Zigong amounts to more than 100 billion yuan.
