Zigong firefighters rush to join rescue in Yibin

A 6.0-magnitude earthquake hit Changning County of Yibin City in Sichuan Province at 10:55 p.m. on June 17 (Beijing Time), according to local authorities.


The Zigong Municipal Fire-fighting Rescue Detachment instantly dispatched 57 firefighters to the quake-hit area with their rescue equipment within 35 minutes of hearing the news.



The team encountered a landslide on the way at 2:50 a.m. on June 18 and then marched on foot arriving at Gongquan Town in Changning County on 7 a.m. on the same day.

They immediately conducted rescue and search operations in seven communities and 20 villages in the town. By 7 p.m. on June 18, they had detected 12 dilapidated houses and helped set up over 100 tents.
