Zigong residents' health literacy level rises to 14.51 pct

The health literacy level of residents in Zigong City, Sichuan Province, rose from 8.7 percent in 2016 to 14.51 percent in 2018, according to a news briefing on health promotion and education work in Zigong City on June 21.

Health literacy means the ability for a person to acquire, comprehend, and process basic healthinformation to make appropriate health decisions. The health literacy level is the percentage of those with health literacy in the total population.

Over the past few years, the city of Zigong has improved health knowledge and disease prevention work, said Miao Wan Chuan, vice director of the Zigong Municipal Health Commission, at the conference.

All primary and middle schools in Zigong have established health education classes, and the rate of Zigong residents who meet the National Physical Fitness Standard has reached 93.2 percent by the end of 2018, she added.

Until now, the city of Zigong hasset up 1,226 family physician teams to offer multiple, comprehensive, and consecutive medical services. The contract signing rate of family physician services reached 47.41 percent among urban and rural citizens.
