The opening ceremony for freshmen at Sichuan University of Science and Engineering kicked off in the city of Zigong, Sichuan Province, on September 2. A total of 11,101 freshmen attended the ceremony and will receive military training until September 13.

Tuo Xianguo, president of the university, expressed his hope that all the freshmen can pursue their dreams, gain more knowledge, acquire more wisdom, learn to cooperate and cultivate a professional capacity to be a high-quality college student in the new era.

Yang Keqin, a freshman majoring in computer science and technology, had a clear plan of his college life. "Apart from learning professional knowledge, I will proactively participate in various activities, especially public service activities," he said.

"The long history of China attracted me and Chinese people's kindness and hospitality made me feel warm," said Ye Li, an overseas student from Kazakhstan majoring in hotel management. "The academic atmosphere and cultural background of the university truly fascinated me."
