The third Alumni Forum of Renmin University of China (RUC) and a visit to Wu Yuzhang hometown (Zigong) was held in Zigong city, in southwest China's Sichuan province on July 26. More than 100 alumni and guests attended the forum to offer suggestions for the high-quality development of Zigong.
At the forum, the RUC Alumni Association in Sichuan donated a stone reading the school motto "Seek Truth from Facts" to Zigong's Rongxian county. Furthermore, the RUC Business School Alumni Association in Anhui province donated 100,000 yuan to the Zigong Women's Federation as a grant for primary and secondary school girls in Zigong.
At the forum, Wang Sangui, professor of the RUC Agricultural Economics and Rural Development School, Wang Wen, executive dean of the RUC Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies, and Zhang Rui, chairman of the Wanxue Education Group and a PhD graduate from RUC, delivered speeches. Wang Wen discussed carbon neutrality under the new development paradigm and emphasized the need for carbon neutrality to boost the economic growth of cities.
Zigong, a unique and historical city, is best known for being home to Jiang Zhuyun (also known as Sister Jiang, an underground member of the Communist Party of China and revolutionary martyr), well salt culture, dinosaur ruins, and lantern craftmanship. As an efficient and convenient transportation hub, Zigong boasts a solid industrial base and a favorable environment for innovation and entrepreneurship.
At present, Zigong is promoting reform, innovation, transformation, and upgrading of its old industrial bases, and building a national high-quality cultural export base. The city is also jointly developing the southern Sichuan and western Chongqing integrated pilot zone and the innovative development demonstration zone for industrial relocation from the eastern region.
In addition, Zigong is accelerating the construction of a model city for deepening reform and opening up in Chengdu and Chongqing in the new era, striving to become a livable modern historical and cultural city and a city where urban and rural areas enjoy common happiness and prosperity.
Meanwhile, the RUC is the first modern university founded by the People's Republic of China. Its first President was Wu yuzhang, who came from Rongxian county in Zigong, making Zigong and RUC closely connected. The academic advantages and alumni resources have RUC contributed to the development of Zigong and helped deepen cooperation between the university and the city.
On the same day, a roundtable and an alumni seminar were also held to pool wisdom to brainstorm issues such as the ecological conservation, high-quality development, deepened reform, and expanded opening-up of Zigong.
