The city of Zigong in Sichuan province has realized full 5G coverage, becoming the first among all the cities across Sichuan, according to a news briefing held by the Zigong Municipal Government and the China Telecommunications Corporation on Jan. 4 in the city.
China Telecom has conducted 5G construction in Zigong for years. In 2019, the first 5G base station was set up, and the first 5G standalone base station completed construction the following year. As a result, more than 1,700 5G base stations have been set up, and the city has realized full 5G coverage.
According to Luo Bayi, general manager of the Zigong Branch of China Telecom, the city of Zigong will accelerate the construction of the Zigong Innovative Application Industrial Park, advance 5G development together with AI, the internet of things, big data, and cloud computing. Furthermore, the city will combine its 5G development with intelligent tourism, digital countryside, intelligent parks, social governance, and competent medical care to promote economic growth and improve the city image of Zigong.
