Launch ceremony of lantern festival-themed book held in Zigong

The launch ceremony of a book entitled "Research on Zigong Sky Lantern Folk Customs" was held in the city of Zigong, Sichuan province, on Nov. 28. Lantern-making artists, curators of museums, and inheritors of state-level intangible cultural heritage like the Chaozhou Lantern and the Xianju Lantern attended the ceremony.

Dai Yanling, curator of the China Lantern Museum and one of the book's authors, spoke about the content, views and significance of the research and the book. The book traces the origin of the sky lantern festival in Zigong from the perspective of folklore. It concludes that its history dates back to the Song Dynasty or earlier.
