The Baidu Apollo Smart Transportation (Southwestern China) AI Basic Data Industrial Base is slated to be established in Zigong city, Sichuan province, according to a contract signing ceremony held in Chengdu city, on June 18.
The base, located at the New City Exhibition Center in Zigong, will receive an investment of 200 million yuan ($27.8 million). It is expected to attract and incubate at least 10 technology businesses, creating over 650 jobs once operational, according to an agreement signed by the Government of Da'an District in Zigong, Baidu Inc., and the Zigong Municipal Investment Group.
With the goal of creating a top-tier AI data annotation base, the project will facilitate professional education and training in the areas of smart transportation and geographic information services. It will also drive the commercialization of technologies and advance the development of platforms that highlight smart transportation and intelligent connected vehicles, according to the ceremony.
