A total of eight best works, 16 excellent works, and 30 creative works were awarded in the first session of the Zigong Lantern Global Children's Creativity Solicitation Activity, according to results released Dec. 21. Another 154 works also received awards for their outstanding quality.
The activity, which began June 1, garnered about 3,000 creative lantern design paintings by the end of August. Children from across China and countries such as the U.K., the U.S., Russia, Spain, and Singapore submitted paintings. These works featured dragons and dinosaurs in traditional Chinese paintings, block prints, watercolors, and other mediums. In September, an expert team selected 208 works to enter the finals. After online voting and expert appraisal, the final results were determined.
Artisans are now creating designs based on the awarded works. Their goal is to bring these designs to life as lanterns at the upcoming 30th Zigong International Dinosaur Lantern Festival.
