Zigong enhances ecological conservation

The city of Zigong has emphasized green development and pollution control in recent years, according to a news conference held in Zigong, Sichuan province, on Dec. 26. Measures such as prohibiting fireworks during festivals and burning straw in farmlands, along with license plate restrictions in autumn and winter, have led to improvements. As of Dec. 24, the average density of PM10 and PM2.5 in Zigong was 60.3 micrograms and 41.3 micrograms per cubic meter, respectively. The city achieved 283 days of excellent air quality in 2023, ranking 15th among cities across Sichuan province, the conference reported. Zigong has also taken measures to improve water quality, including a three-year action plan for Fuxi River management, regularizing water environment supervision and restoration, accelerating the diversion of rain water and sewage, and constructing sewage treatment plants.
