Zigong receives 561,400 tourists during May Day holiday

A total of 17 A-level tourist attractions in Zigong, Sichuan province, received 561,400 visitors during the May Day holiday from May 1 to 5, generating 10.24 million yuan ($1.5 million) in ticket revenues.

To cater to diverse interests, Zigong rolled out 97 themed activities under three categories: "urban trendy fun," "cultural exploration," and "folk customs." The offerings spanned 97 distinctive initiatives, ranging from traditional Chinese entertainment and culinary delights to art performances, experiences showcasing intangible cultural heritage, and exhibition tours.

To attract younger visitors, Zigong introduced urban festivals like the First Session of the Light and Shadow Animation Carnival at the Chinese Lantern World, the Cyber Fun Festival at the Fantawild Dinosaur Kingdom, and the Youth Zigong Lifestyle Festival. The events featured interactive cosplay sessions, Hanfu parades, dinosaur shows powered by artificial intelligence, concerts and street basketball competitions.

Thematic study tours delving into geology, intangible cultural heritage, and rural revitalization took place at sites like the Zigong Dinosaur Museum, Zigong Salt Industry History Museum, China Lantern Museum, and Confucian Temple. Activities like augmented reality dinosaur experiences, salt history lessons, face-changing Sichuan opera performances and tie-dye drew over 200,000 tourists.

Ancient towns, including Xianshi and Zhaohua, hosted folk cultural events and rural tourism draws. These immersed visitors in the city's storied heritage and natural splendor through dragon dances, traditional performances, outdoor concerts and other recreational programs.
