The 31st Zigong International Dinosaur Lantern Festival will open at the Chinese Lantern World in Zigong, Sichuan province, on Jan. 17, according to a press conference held on Jan. 13.
This year's lantern show will feature seven themed zones, including "Welcoming the New Year," "Colorful China," "Joyous Celebration," and "Harmony of Civilizations." With 12 extra-large lantern installations, seven large lantern sets, and over 200 medium- and small-scale designs, this will be the largest lantern display in the festival's history.
The event will showcase elements of intangible cultural heritage, including porcelain, Sichuan opera and paper cutting, while incorporating cutting-edge technologies like artificial intelligence. A highlight will be the AI robotic dinosaur lanterns, which promise to captivate attendees. Additionally, popular themes from Chinese animated films and mobile games, such as "Honor of Kings," will provide visitors with engaging and interactive sensory experiences.
The Second Global Children's Creative Collection Activity for Zigong Lanterns will add youthful energy to the event. The "Creative Beautiful Lanterns" section will feature imaginative designs from children in 26 countries, bringing their ideas to life with vibrant displays.
In addition to the lantern exhibitions, this year's festival will feature live performances. Aerial shows, immersive interactions, and themed short plays will provide visitors with a unique experience that blends the virtual and real, historical and contemporary, and artistic and everyday life. Highlights will include the "Lighting Up Chinese Lanterns" exhibition to welcome the Year of the Snake, showcasing 47 lantern works from 15 provinces and cities across China, along with displays of folk customs and spring-themed cultural activities.
To enhance the visitor experience, Zigong has upgraded its infrastructure and services. A smart cultural tourism platform allows visitors to conveniently access features such as ticket purchasing, parking guidance, site navigation, and accommodation reservations with just a few clicks on their smartphones.
During the Spring Festival holiday, Zigong will present over 200 cultural and tourism activities, including tours of Zigong Dinosaur Museum, Shenhai Well, Fantawild Dinosaur Kingdom and other cultural attractions.
