The fifth Rong County Loquat Cultural Tourism Festival and Product Sales Matching Event kicked off in Xinqiao town, Rong county, Zigong, on April 25, featuring performances, sales partnerships and a month of fruit-picking opportunities for visitors.

The opening ceremony featured the dance performance "Xinqiao Loquat Ballad," which portrayed the ambiance of local loquat orchards through energetic choreography. Meanwhile, the "Cloth Dragon Dance," recognized as a provincial-level intangible cultural heritage, was also performed, showcasing traditional culture from Rong county.

Officials conducted a signing ceremony aimed at expanding distribution channels for Xinqiao's loquats and other local agricultural products.

Visitors can participate in loquat picking through May 25 at multiple orchards throughout Xinqiao town. The festival schedule includes additional activities such as a tug-of-war competition, a "Loquat Fun Run," and the selection of the "Loquat King" — an award recognizing outstanding loquat growers.

Xinqiao loquats have received national geographical indication status and are among China's premium agricultural products. The fruit is distinguished by its large size, easy peeling, juiciness, sweet flavor and visual appeal.

In recent years, Xinqiao town has launched initiatives to improve the quality of the town's loquats, build up local brands, and broaden the entire industrial and supply chain. These efforts aim to transform the fruit from a local specialty into a high-end product through better resource integration and innovative development.
