Zigong welcomes 670,000 tourists during May Day Holiday

Zigong welcomed 674,861 tourists to its 19 A-level tourist attractions during the five-day May Day holiday, up 20.21% from last year, with the city offering both online and in-person cultural experiences throughout the celebration.

Zigong hosted five themed events with 65 activities, including the 31st Zigong International Dinosaur Lantern Festival featuring light shows, interactive parades and drone displays.

Other attractions included boat tours on the Fuxi River and 33 rural tourism activities, featuring the 26th Xianshi Ancient Town Folk Tourism Festival and Zhaohua Ancient Town Baba Banquet Series. Visitors enjoyed folk parades, cultural heritage performances, Sichuan Opera and traditional village entertainment.

Zigong Fantawild Dinosaur Kingdom extended its hours to 9 p.m., providing 12-hour experiences that combined popular animated characters with immersive settings.

Educational tourism activities also drew visitors to Zigong. The aviation science tour allowed participants to observe aircraft operations up close, while the Zigong Dinosaur Museum introduced a self-guided family activity where parents and children worked together to solve the mystery of an injured dinosaur.

The Zigong Salt Industry History Museum hosted an immersive experience at the traditional salt well, showcasing the ingenuity of ancient salt workers. The China Lantern Museum featured activities including pot throwing, lantern riddles and lantern painting, combining educational and recreational experiences for families.
