The southwestern city of Zigong was designated as "Green Capital of Fluorine" at an industry conference that brought together hundreds of industry leaders to chart the future of the China's rapidly growing fluorosilicone sector.

The 2025 Fluorosilicone Industry High-Quality Development Conference, held Thursday in Zigong, Sichuan province, brought together leading enterprises from China's fluorosilicone sector, industry associations, research institutes and universities to identify emerging applications and growth opportunities. Fluorosilicones are high-performance synthetic materials used in electronics, aerospace and automotive applications.

The conference, themed "High-Quality Innovation, Industrial Synergy and Green Development," featured speeches by Ministry of Industry and Information Technology officials and industry experts who discussed manufacturing development, domestic fluorine environmental regulation challenges, and applications for high-performance fluoropolymers in aerospace and other sectors.

Supporting events included talent exchanges, an innovation conference and project matchmaking sessions aimed at strengthening industry-academia collaboration and accelerating technology adoption. The conference served as a platform for promoting the sustainable development of Zigong's fluorine chemical industry and regional economy.

Zigong's fluorosilicone sector has expanded rapidly since the Southern Sichuan New Materials Chemical Park became one of the province's first officially approved chemical industry parks in April 2022. Major companies, including Sinochem Group, China National Nuclear Corporation and Fujian Yongjing Technology, have established operations there, helping to build a comprehensive industrial chain from basic raw materials to high-end fluorinated products.

The city now hosts Sichuan's only specialized fluorosilicone park, which has been designated a national demonstration park for advanced fluorine materials and named one of China's top 10 fluorosilicone industry parks.
