Zigong secures 3-2 home soccer victory over Leshan

The Zigong Lantern City Shenlong Team secured a thrilling 3-2 home victory over the Leshan Flavor Extraordinary Team on May 30 in the finals stage of the 2025/2026 Sichuan City Football League ("Chuan Chao"), with a stoppage-time penalty sealing the win at Zigong Nanhu Sports Center.

The match featured end-to-end action and several swings in momentum. Zigong twice took the lead only to be pegged back by Leshan before a dramatic late winner ensured another home triumph.

Zigong got off to a flying start in the game's fourth minute. A forward rose above the defense inside the penalty area and powered a header into the top corner, giving the home side an early 1-0 advantage.

Leshan responded in the 34th minute, capitalizing on a quickly taken corner kick while Zigong's defense was still reorganizing. A forward found the net to level the score at 1-1 before halftime.

Five minutes into the second half, Zigong regained the lead after a Leshan player was penalized for handball in the box. The resulting penalty was converted to make it 2-1.

The visitors fought back once again in the 73rd minute. Sustained pressure in front of the Zigong goal led to a scramble in the penalty area, and a Leshan player seized the opportunity to chip the ball home from close range, bringing the score to 2-2.

With less than a minute remaining in regulation time, Zigong launched a rapid counterattack. A Zigong player broke into the penalty area and was brought down by a Leshan defender, prompting the referee to award a penalty. The home side calmly converted the spot kick in stoppage time to secure a dramatic 3-2 victory.

The win lifted Zigong above Leshan in the standings. Zigong now has a record of three wins, six draws and three losses, totaling 15 points.

According to the league schedule, Zigong will travel to face Mianyang in the next round, while Leshan will return home to take on Deyang.
