Zigong defeats Dazhou 2-1 in Sichuan City Football League

The Zigong Lantern City Shenlong Team rallied from a goal down to beat the Dazhou Chuanhanzi Team 2-1 in the 15th round of the 2025/2026 Sichuan City Football League ("Chuan Chao") finals stage on June 20, extending its unbeaten home record.

The match drew a passionate crowd to Nanhu Sports Center in Zigong. Before kickoff, thousands of home supporters unveiled a giant banner covering the entire main stand, with city-themed slogans that energized the stadium.

The hosts started brightly, launching several dangerous attacks in the opening stages. Dazhou's defense, however, remained organized and neutralized the pressure.

In the 25th minute, Dazhou broke the deadlock. After winning possession in midfield, a Dazhou player unleashed a powerful long-range strike into the top corner to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. Zigong went into halftime trailing by the same score.

The turning point came midway through the second half. In the 66th minute, Zigong earned a free kick just outside the penalty area after one of its players was fouled during a forward run. The effort curled over the wall and into the corner of the net, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance and leveling the score at 1-1.

The equalizer sparked renewed confidence in the home side, which quickly intensified its attacking pressure. Just six minutes later, Zigong completed the comeback. Following a corner kick, the ball was partially cleared but fell to a Zigong player outside the penalty area, who spotted the goalkeeper off his line and curled a shot sharply into the net to make it 2-1.

With the lead secured, Zigong maintained defensive discipline while threatening on the counterattack. Dazhou pushed forward in search of an equalizer, but the hosts' back line stood firm and repelled a series of late attacks.

The final whistle confirmed a 2-1 victory for Zigong.

The win lifts Zigong to 18 points and third place in the league standings. The team will next travel to face Nanchong on June 27 before returning home to take on Deyang on July 11.
