The 2026 Nanhu Moonlight Autumn Festival opened at Nanhu Ecological Park in Zigong, Sichuan province, on the evening of Sept. 21, unveiling upgraded landscapes, illuminated installations and interactive attractions along the lakeside.

Hosted by the Zigong municipal government under the theme "Moonlight over Nanhu, Flowers in Full Bloom, Peace and Prosperity," the event aims to boost the park's appeal and expand the city's nighttime cultural and tourism offerings during the autumn season.

Stretching 2.5 kilometers around the lake, the illuminated walkway combines lighting effects with the park's natural scenery. Sculptural lights depicting rabbits and full moons are scattered across lawns and green spaces among the surrounding trees.

Mist drifts through wooded areas, while projected flowers appear to move beneath visitors' feet.

The centerpiece, "A Bright Moon Rising over the Sea," recreates an imagined celestial palace from traditional Chinese moon mythology.

Covering about 15,000 square meters, the installation features a flying figure of the moon goddess Chang'e, a ribbon of stars and a lotus-themed boat. A mist system adds to the atmosphere across the water.

Visitors can also explore interactive games and light installations throughout the park.

The water-screen light show "A Moonlit Adventure" draws on traditional Chinese aesthetics and stories of ancient poets gazing at the moon, attracting crowds who stop to watch and take photos.

Additional attractions, including the Xingye campsite, a children's forest and a series of interactive performances, are scheduled to open later.
